For the past week or so I’ve been working on a signifigant new feature of ged2csv and the genealogy database scripts. Two nights ago I released a new version of ged2csv with the changes and also posted information on the database design.

This evening I completed the optimization of ged2csv’s code. It now takes a whopping 0.15 seconds (previous builds were taking about 2.5 seconds) to process my entire 1.5MB gedcom file!! Just for comparison, the freeware program I was using before I built my own took almost a minute! I’ll post the optimized version after I complete my testing.

Just a quick update to say that I’ve added a couple of new galleries. The one I added this evening is from Craig’s Olympic Torch Relay party, and a couple of nights ago I added another gallery from our trip to Guanajuato over Christmas.

I made a lot of little changes to the website tonight. First I enhanced the genealogy database statistic script by adding a few new stats. I fleshed out the new Software pages a little and made the latest beta version of ged2csv available for download (I also fixed a couple of bugs in ged2csv first!). Made a small change to the footer on all the web pages. Updated the online genealogy database (just a few more individuals and a bunch of facts now have source info).

It’s 8pm and we’re heading to John’s for dinner and then the gym if we’re not too full, so that’s probably all the changes for tonight.

I’ve added some graphic enhancements to assist in the navigation on the Family page and Pedigree charts. I also created a new table and associated scripts to display photos/images for individuals that have multimedia files linked to them.

Tomorrow evening I’ll add a new photo gallery from our first full day in Guanajuato. I also plan on creating some software web pages. These will cover the specifics of the programs I’ve been writting lately.

This evening I created a basic pedigree PHP script for the genealogy pages. If you click on any of the new tree icons on the family group pages, it will take you to the pedigree page for that individual. The pages still need some minor formatting changes, and I might add a little more data, but overall I’m pretty pleased with it so far.
