After reading Kottke’s Earworm post about Since U Been Gone I fired up Rhapsody (I hate iTunes) and opened up the Most Popular Tracks by Kelly Clarkson page. Since U Been Gone was the most popular, but I didn’t find myself compelled to listen to it more than a couple of times. Wanting to keep moving, I started playing the others in the list. The third song was Because of You. I don’t know what any of the other songs are like because I’ve had Because of You on repeat for the last 6 hours. This is Because of You, Kottke. Damn you.

The following is from my “most played” list in Winamp, which is set to track the songs played in the last 30 days. Keep in mind that this is only from my laptop. It doesn’t include anything I’ve listened to in Rhapsody, my home PC, my iPod, or my Sirius radio. Its probably about half of the music I listen to during work hours.

  1. Dice - Finley Quaye (Much More Than Love, 2004)
  2. Taxi Ride - Tori Amos (Scarlet’s Walk, 2002)
  3. As The Rush Comes - Motorcycle (As The Rush Comes, 2004)
  4. Hunter - Bjork (Homogenic, 1997)
  5. Doof - Dawn Of A New Error (It’s About Time, 2000)
  6. Stolen Car - Beth Orton (Central Reservation, 1999)
  7. Everything I’ve Got In My Pocket - Minnie Driver (Everything I’ve Got In My Pocket, 2004)
  8. Sleeps With Butterflies -Tori Amos (The Beekeeper, 2005)
  9. Lose Yourself - Eminem (8 Mile, 2002)
  10. Invisible Girl - Minnie Driver (Everything I’ve Got In My Pocket, 2004)

It’s been two weeks since my The Times They Are A-Changin’ post, so I thought I’d provide an update.

The blog portion of the site has been migrated from Blogger to Wordpress 1.5. If you have a blog which you host on your own site and you haven’t checked out Wordpress in a while, I suggest that you do so immediately. It’s incredibly powerful and uncommonly flexible.

The photo galleries have been migrated from a combination of pbase and my own gallery software to a combo of Flickr and the Flickr Gallery plug-in for Wordpress. The plug-in isn’t compatible with Wordpress 1.5, so it requires a couple of small hacks to make it work. I hacked it quite a lot more to make it work how I want it to. Not all of the galleries have been migrated, but I’m bringing a few over each day. Some of the more boring galleries will be scrapped.

I’m now in the process of creating a new template for Retrospect-GDS, so that I can integrate it seamlessly into the new site design. That should be done in a few days.
