I did the same thing about 15 months ago to pursue the Ruby/Rails dream, and whilst it hasn't all been RoR work, the vast majority of it has (I just finished off a 14 month RoR contract). I admire the courage it takes to leave the security of 9 to 5--I did it myself in September so I know how scary it can be. But let me tell you I'm loving every minute of it. This is a great time to go at it on your terms and define success for yourself. Sure, its scary at first but you'll find your stride. Add yourself in the rails wiki as available for hire, keep an eye on jobs.rubynow.com and railsjob.com---participate in your local user groups and always keep the lines of communication open with everyone.
